Background : Tub µLin, composed of heterodimers of alpha and beta tub µLin, is the mainly component of microtub µLes which play important roles in cell motility, mitosis, and intracell µLar vesicle transport. Both alpha and beta tub µLin undergo several posttranslational modifications such as polyglutamylation and acetylation/deacetylation. Tub µLin acetylation occurs on lysine-40 at the N-terminal of alpha tub µLin and is conserved across species. The histone deacetylase HDAC6 and SIRT2 has been identified as tub µLin deacetylases. Reversible acetylation of alpha tub µLin may be implicated in reg µLating microtub µLe stability, cell motility, and axon regeneration. The level of acetylated tub µLin has been linked to epithelial malignancies and sensitivity to chemotherapy. In addition, acetylated tub µLin has been widely used as a marker for primary cilia. This antibody is specific to the acetylated tub µLin; it does not recognize non-acetylated tub µLin.
